It sucks, but you have to do it. Trust me. I have two molars gone on my bottom right and one tooth that needs a filling when I get enough money up. I use to hate flossing, because it cut my gums, but my teeth were suffering and I didn’t brush for a while. Now I know better and brush my teeth with flossing with twice a day flossing and 3 times a day brushing.

  6. No, you floss first …
No, you floss first, to remove plaque build up. Then you brush. You do it that way because otherwise the fluoride won’t cover the places you’ve brushed if plaque is in the way.

  7. Seems like flossing …
Seems like flossing is cutting you plenty!

It bleeds when you don’t floss enough. It’s okay if it bleeds. After a couple weeks of flossing every day, you won’t bleed as much.

Floss, then brush, then mouthwash. You should do all three.

Here’s a question, doc, if you don’t mind. I tried it, and i sucked at it, got frustrated and cut my gums … is there any other more effective method of preventing plaque? I also use anti-plaque mouthwash … is that a good replacement by itself? or do you have any recommendations, cuz seriously, floss isn’t cutting it for me. Thanks

  10. Brushing and then …
Brushing and then flossing and then mouthwashing with listerine or similar to it, is the right way.
Flossing should be used to remove what the brush couldn’t reach, and they advise us to floss before brushing!!

I watched some other videos and they are very nice, so great job Michelle, but on this one I had some little concern.

  18. Maybe my tone in my …
Maybe my tone in my first post wasnt totally correct, because I find it very positive that someone takes some time and explains the necessity of oral hygiene. And on that specific model it is hard to show (impossible) how to floss altogether correct, because you cant pass under the contact point of the teeth (the teeth are not separated on that model) and actually go under the gum line. And if you want to manipulate with the floss correct the model should be fixed to.

  19. I wasn’t talking …
I wasn’t talking about floss or not to floss. I was talking about the technique. If you hold the floss like that it is most likely that you will cut your gums, and they will bleed, whether they are healthy or not. She is holding the floss way to much apart, and she is forcing it with to much pressure into the gums.

So you must definitely floss your teeth, but not the same way, the basics are alright, but overall it is not totally correct.

By the way I am a dental surgeon.

BY THE WAY IF they …
BY THE WAY IF they still bleed from flossing OR brushing after a week or 2 then go to your dentist something is wrong and you need to be checked out

  21. solutionstoliveby on February 26th, 2010 at 6:26 pm

    no it wont be …
no it wont be bleeding gum’s. once your gum’s get USE to flossing! they toughen up and the bleeding stops after flossing for about a week or so. IF they bleed when you do floss at first this means you have plaque buildup between your teeth. so flossing like the way she is showing IS correct and safe, dentist told me so.

  22. If you floss your …
If you floss your teeth like that you will end up with bleeding gums all the time (because of cutting with the flos into your gums)
