Are you supposed to CALL dental clinics and ask how much fillings cost or do you have to go in?
Yes I realize this is a stupid question but I no longer have coverage & I want to know whether or not I can afford it. So do you have to go in for them to see you before they can tell you, or can they just give you an estimate over the phone?

its isn’t stupid any way. you need to know the cost thats going to be incurred while going for a dental makeover. but none of the dentist would be able to tell you the exact cost over the telephone as different dental procedures cost differently and moreover it also depend over your oral health. so a personal visit would always be recommended. for dental referrals you can follow

I think it mainly depends upon the dentist that has to be well experince. Always visit to a good doctor that has excellent quality of track record.

It may be a better idea to ask how much a new patient exam and x-rays would be. The dentist will be able to look in your mouth and they can print off a treatment plan of everything that needs to be done and how much it will (approximately) cost. And remember, it’s just an estimate. If they quote you for a two surface filling and then it turns into three surfaces, it will be more expensive.
They can’t really give you an estimate over the phone without seeing your tooth. They don’t know if it’s a tiny chip on one surface or how much decay is there, if the tooth is cracked or infected or needs a crown, etc… or if it can even be fixed at all.
