When you loose (or have lost) a tooth, the only ways to replace them are through dental bridges, dentures, or by dental implants. To find out why dental impalnts are the most conservative way of replacing lost teeth, and in restoring your smile and biting and chewing function, go to http://dentalimplantsaustralia.com/
References :
http://dentalimplantsaustralia.com/

yes they are painful, implants mean that ... they implant a metal rod into your jaw (like a root) and the after 6 weeks of healing they place a crown like tooth on it. it's really expensive and yes it will help with all your alignment & chewing problems ... but you may want to look at other options before you go this one.
References :
I think the suggestion for implants is a good one.

Yes, it will help relieve some TMJ symptoms simply by giving you posterior teeth to re-open your bite. Missing teeth can be very stressful to the joint. The bite closes deeply causing malalignment and disc distress.

I have personally assisted many implant placement surgeries, the patients say it is less painful than having a tooth extracted and seem to do very well and heal quickly.

As far as VA dentists are concerned, I have heard horror stories--but I have heard the same concerning dentists that are not VA. Trust your instincts. If you do not like the chairside manner of the dentist go to a different one. There has to be more than one VA dentist available to you.

Good luck!
References :
Implants are a wonderful way to replace missing teeth. An oral surgeon will be the one that places the implant in your jaw bone and once that has healed properly then you will see your general dentist to have the crown attached to the implant. I have done alot of implants and all of my patients say that it was not very painful to have the surgery. They said that it felt like they had a tooth extracted. You will have great results with the implants and you should do it. It is expensive but it is well worth the money.
References :
I'm a Dental Assistant

you will probably need to stay in the hospital for a week after you have the procedure...it is painful because they are putting teeth in your mouth with screws...but it's not painful once you have healed and it will correct any problems you have been having as you are now...you will definitely feel much better once you have healed...so get it done as soon as possible so you can start feeling better soon...
References :
Dental Implants are good. Its has to be done by a surgeon so that mean it can be very expensive. Your only other option would be to get a partial. Its less expensive and less painful, but you will have false teeth in the back, that are removable so its like having a denture. If you have a problem with that get the implants. Also, it depends on your age. If you are over 50, I would not suggest getting implants because when you reach a certain age you may need dentures anyway.
References :
My husband recently had his whole mouth done (he was given medication as a boy that made his teeth brittle and they all broke - he is only 36yrs).
It was very painful and you will definately need time off work and someone at home to care for you. He was taking lots of pain killers for several days after each part of the work was done. He said the worse were the front teeth and thats where most of his swelling was (so you maybe ok with it being back teeth)

He looks absolutely brillant now and I am sooo proud of him - they look natural.
