Because my husband earns JSA, would i get free prescriptions and dental treatment?
After being made redundant my husband is on JSA. he tells me that because he earns on behalf of us (my daughter and i) that i would get free dental treatment, meaning im on benefit too. does that mean for prescriptions i should tick the JSA box? i want to be sure and don’t want to say im on benefit if i’m not.
First of all, he does not EARN JSA, though he may qualify for it. JSA is not payment for work done!
Secondly, it will depend on what kind of JSA he receives. If it is JSA Contributions-based only, (currently £64.30 per week if over 25,) then none of you are automatically entitled to free prescriptions or dental treatment; you may be able to claim on other grounds, such as having a low income. I think it’s form HC1 you need for that.
If it’s Income-based JSA that your husband claims, then yes, you will be eligible. You should indicate that you are the partner/dependant of someone in receipt of Income-based JSA.
Not if you are working. I have never heard of anyone other than the recipient being able to claim anything.

I think he would be only able to claim for himself, I think there might be a joint JSA for partners and families. If you are not working then it might be a good idea to apply for that.
