Where can I find a cheap dentist in my area, like a dental clinic/school?

I have already tried the government sites and nothing came up. I will travel within a 50 mile radius of Schereville. Indiana. Thanks for any help.
P.S. I fear dddentists.

Usually you can contact the local colleges..unless there is an actual dental school around you. I live in Ohio, and we can go to OSU medical to the dentist. I know a lot of people who do and say it’s much cheaper! Good luck!

why don’t we politically try for socialized dental care too if we are gonna have free national health care?

some dental problems could be very life threatening like an abscess.
Also dental care could be very expensive, like 3000 for a root canal.

There are several types of subsidized dental care systems in various European countries, for example. If you are really interested, you can look up the different programs, by country, and see the type of government programs, private programs, varying insurance coverage plans and combinations thereof. We could evaluate those programs to see what aspects might work well here since many people here have no dental coverage.

has anyone got a dental bridge?

my 18 year old daughter has had problems with one tooth for several years, its the first double tooth. shes had a root canal for a while now but keeps getting an infection in it. dentist said last time that if it happens again then he wants to take the root out and make a bridge for. anyone know what this will involve. she s very dental phobic and hates having anything done . thanks for your help.
thanks for your answers they are all good. just to clarify she has had a root canal done on this tooth, the crown has fallen out several times and she is now getting constant infections in the root that is left which is why he wants to remove the root and do a bridge. thanks for your answers i now understand what it is and sounds like its a good idea.

Usually, a bridge involves filing down the teeth either side of the gap once the infected tooth has been removed,this is done about 3-6 months after the extraction to allow the gum to settle. The bridge is made up of 2 crowns with a false porcelain crown in the middle. The crowns are cemented on and the bridge should last for years as long as your daughter keeps the bridge,(and the rest of her mouth),clean and healthy. Your daughter has had root canal done so Im sure she will cope with a bridge prep,it’s unfortunate that the root treatment has failed, a bridge is a good replacement for a missing tooth. At the appointment,the Dentist will do some drilling to file the teeth down and take impressions,depending on the surgery, a further appointment a couple of weeks later will be needed to fit the bridge. It will be worth it and I wish your daughter luck.

What are some tips for first time dental insurance buyers to avoid rip offs and scams?

never having bought dental insurance before can be scary, anyone have any tips to avoid misunderstandings, and high costs, and things like this ? Corporations clearly can trick people to get into their pocket books big time, so what are some things to look out for and avoid when you have never bought dental insurance before? (In California if it matters)

Normally, dental insurance is NOT a good buy. Dental insurance typically only covers 50% of the work, has a very low yearly limit ($1000-$2000), and each procedure has a deductible attached (usually about $50). For the price it doesn’t cover itself.

I’m a self-employed so there is no "company benefits" and my dad is an insurance salesperson. There is NO WAY I can go a day without medical insurance. He WILL NOT sale me dental insurance because it just isn’t worth the money.

Also, my dentist discounts everything now that I don’t have dental insurance. I didn’t ask for this; he just started doing it.

I need to have two cavities fixed on two molars, but I am scared to go because I heard it will be very expensive. Does anyone know how much exactly for two fillings? I live in Scotland.

Through NHS dentists it’s about £45 for one filling. Private dentists would be more but who knows how much more?!

Since I have no back teeth, & can chew with only one spot in my mouth, the dentist has suggested dental implants. This is a VA dentist, & they aren’t known for their compassion. How painful is it? He says it will relieve my TMJ symptoms. Is this true? My jaw is out of alignment. Will it help? Thank you in advance for the input! By the way, when I said VA, I meant Veterans Administration, not Virginia. Thanks!

I think the suggestion for implants is a good one.

Yes, it will help relieve some TMJ symptoms simply by giving you posterior teeth to re-open your bite. Missing teeth can be very stressful to the joint. The bite closes deeply causing malalignment and disc distress.

I have personally assisted many implant placement surgeries, the patients say it is less painful than having a tooth extracted and seem to do very well and heal quickly.

As far as VA dentists are concerned, I have heard horror stories–but I have heard the same concerning dentists that are not VA. Trust your instincts. If you do not like the chairside manner of the dentist go to a different one. There has to be more than one VA dentist available to you.
